Retrospectively, I’m not sure if I like this sequel anymore.
In a way, The Last Song felt incomplete and the story deserved to
be carried on (to a – at least a little – less open
end). On the other hand, it can stand for itself which is why I
decided to go with two separate fics. True shippers and romantics
might prefer to ignore this sequel while for others, I hope, it
clarifies the dynamics of events a little better.
I keep stumbling over this communication issue, thinking how
things could take a different turn if only they would find a way
to make each other understand their respective perspectives. But
in the end there’s always the realization that it
doesn’t really matter after all because there’s just no
way for them to get past what’s happened. So, in a way, I
guess this was a bit wishful thinking, hence the long dialogues
and explanations (in both fics, actually), mixed with the dawning
realization that it’s too late for talking.
