FANFICS

Interrogation Series

2005
Prequel to
Never Change Faces following Nina’s moves in the time between seasons 1 and 3.
Disclaimer: I don’t own 24 or any of its characters, this is a work of fan fiction, I don’t make any money with it. (Too bad.) Neither with the original characters I created, but I do own them. :-p
Author’s note and reading instructions: As if it doesn’t say enough that you might need any…
As mentioned above this is a prequel to another fic of mine, an AU-version of S3. If you haven’t read
Never Change Faces you should, of course, absolutely do so, but it’s not a precondition. Both fics can be read separately although, if you ask for my personal opinion, I recommend to read backwards and start with the sequel instead of the prequel, just the way I wrote them.
Now, in order to help you navigate through the 24-time universe, not to mention my little universe, there’ll be some clues in each chapter as to where exactly we are. For those who are insecure, this is the time frame I’m using and which I believe to be correct:
S1
à S2 = 18 months, S2 à S3 = 3 years, so altogether this fic is covering 4 years and 6 months. In each chapter, the italics on top to the left give the time that has passed since the the previous chapter, while the black box to the right shows the positive time count from days 1 respectively 2, and the negative countdown to day 3.
You’ll get the hang of it…

Author’s comment
Altogether, this fic took me half a year to write, got me slightly schizophrenic, and took me to places I never thought I was gonna go with it. I started out with the intention to follow Nina’s moves in the period between seasons two and three, but soon expanded this idea to cover the entire time between seasons one and three instead. The creation of an original character was meant to produce a second perspective, some sort of Archimedean point, to make the narration more interesting and provide a different angle. Besides the fact that there are no Archimedean points - had I known what I was about to create, I’m not sure I would have started writing, let alone planned on finishing.
However, it all worked out, more or less, although I’m prepared to admit that I got a bit carried away by the dynamics of the storyline that developed – more often than occasionally all by itself. And well, what can I say, I kinda fell for Nick. He’s some sort of middle ground between the other characters. He’s definitely ‘better’ than Nina, but he’s not a shallow patriot or hero (like Jack most of the time), neither is he a bit damaged but rising up to do the right thing in the end (like Tony). I like to think that he’s more real for that although it’s a long stretch from reality to this fic.
